“Museum education in a digital era” is a European Erasmus partnership among Greece, the coordinator country, Portugal, Lithuania, Romania and Hungary. The project is based on the results of a previously implemented Comenius Project under the title “Museums, Education and Modern Society” in 2009 -2011 and inspired by the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. Its ultimate goal is to increase cultural and historical awareness of students supporting them by innovative practices in a digital form. As European societies are facing socio – economic problems, issues of diversity, multiculturalism and intolerance are raised. Consequently, schools have to cope with the new challenges of a changing world and teachers have to develop strategies proper to convert negative elements into creative energy. The world of museums and cultural heritage sites are ideal for developing action, exploring and interpreting human cultures and identities. There is a strong relationship between museums and schools which can activate students. Cultural heritage and the Museum world consist an important tool for schools because it can motivate teachers and students to broaden their view of the world and lead to cultural awareness. There’s also a range of objectives which are going to be achieved through various activities mainly of digital and artistic content which will make the procedure more appealing and creative.

 The project has already started with a seminar in Greece where we achieved the diffusion of our experience, clarified the goals of the project, identified the tasks for each of the partners and made future arrangements. Teachers are asked to plan educational museum visits following the pre – during and after the visit procedure leading to preparation of the students before the museum visit, to their active participation throughout the  museum visit and finally to the awareness of cultural heritage kept in the museum. Then the students are asked to create 1) a museum corner within their schools about the History of Education, 2) an old photo’s revival, 3) a digital museum in order to establish a common space of projecting their cultures, 4) a museum kit about the History of Education which brings intercultural pedagogical benefits. All the activities enhance communication and linguistic competence, cross border cooperation, development of digital competence and critical thinking and finally promote a partnership with features of respect, tolerance and cultural awareness.

Teamwork, interviews, discussions, p.p presentations are due to take place for the implementation of the project. Evaluation questionnaires will be prepared for assessing each of the activities, while a logo, a poster and other dissemination actions will integrate our objectives into school’s regular activities. Besides, the European digital museum will consist a permanent tool of dissemination. The project is for the benefit of the school community, and a wonderful mix of education and culture.
