To celebrate the International Day of Disabled People at St.Michael’s our KS2 classes watched a video about a 13 year old gymnast named Jemma who was born with heart complications and has Down’s syndrome. Children really enjoyed learning about Jemma’s story and how resilient and positive she is. Following on from this our Year 6 class learned a little bit about disability sports and decided to organise a game of blind football. Much hilarity and fun ensued! However, on a more serious note, children gained a much better understanding and respect for people with disabilities.
