3rd of December – International Day of People with Disabilities – 9th Primary School of Limassol
Following the event (that took place on the 4th of December), in the coming few days the students were taught issues related to diversity and had produced different kinds of creative assignments and activities. The students of Year 3 had the chance to get know the life of pupils with disabilities. In this context, the students got involved and analyzed the poem “Susan laughs” by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross. The poem gives the message to children that Susan is a girl with kinetical disabilities, but that is not a factor or a reason that prevents her from behaving and acting in a similar way to her peers. Finally, students did a variety of exercises related to the storybook.
The students of Year 2 created posters which depict the needs and the capabilities of people with disabilities and to advance the message “all people are different, but equal when it comes to their aspirations and the personal fulfillment”.

With the hashtag #Iimprove well impressed in our minds and hung on our walls, we made a one-week training for improvement: seven steps, including little but very important things, such as saying “Thank you” , practicing kindness, recalling sweet memories, helping other people.
Every class realized a panel or a 3d artwork on the theme, starting from a story or a conversation with kids about change and improvement.
Finally, at the end of the training, all the pupils of the school made their symbolic firewalk, because we need patience, bravery
and effort to improve ourselves...but we can do it!
