Numeracy Week in Romania

  •

    Numeracy week was organised during 27th-29th of November week for all students from our school. It gave us the opportunity to achieve different activities through we’ve tried to introduce numbers and mathematical operations in other areas like computer science or literacy.

    Numeracy can be described as knowing about numbers and number operations, having the skills and the ability to solve numerical operations in a variety of contexts or familiarity with handling numerical and graphical information.

    Numeracy is important because it is a life skill. Proficiency in the basic skills of numeracy is not enough: what is needed is the ability to apply these skills to real- life practical problems.

    Activities that have been carried out::

    -making posters having as topic Numbers and stories ;

    - revising multiplication using the Bingo method and the Baloons’game;

    - representation of numbers from  1 to 10 by cutting out the necessary shapes;

    -role-playing in which every student was put to act out as both a salesperson or as a customer at  the greengrocer’s;

    - ICT games that use the main mathematical operations;

    - making posters about the binary and decimal systems  and operations with number conversions base 2 and the other way around.
