The school was engaged in a number of activities. Among them, we can certainly recall THE HUNDRED LINE (PRIMARY SCHOOL - 2nd grade, 7 years old pupils) based on a mathematical tool called “The Hundred Line”, invented by an italian teacher who is the promoter of The Analogical Method. With this tool pupils have a direct access to the visualization of quantities from 1 to 100, and quickly learn to see the quantities without counting one by one. They also have the opportunity to check independently if they were right or wrong, just lifting the cardboard inserted in the split. We noticed that even pupils with learning difficulties find The Hundred Line funny and motivating. The tool also help kids to internalize strategies for mental calculations: first they do it with the material support and then they transform it into a mental image. The can do additions and subtractions, uncovering and covering the dots. We also played fun games and many classes joined in the project.
