Essay on the Czech film  (COOPERATION OF A CLASS GREEK STUDENTS)

The film refers to a group of young students who live in the margin of society, since they are addicted to alcohol and drugs and they are involved with illegal acts, such as graffiti. The pupils  show total indifference in school subjects and at the same time have a behavior that is kind of extreme,  concerning their actions and general behavior.

The story starts with Petr's inspiration for designs which can be drawn on walls. This art is called graffiti. Petr, who is the leading actor, shoes his idea to his friend Michael and the next day they go to an abandoned place in order to create their first design. Their passion, as well as their artistic anxiety for graffiti, leads them to a series of dangerous actions. Dangerous moves on roofs, illegal entries deep down the metro, risky climbing on chimneys, intensity and chaos are these children's daily routine. Some of their adventures didn't have a happy ending, though. They ended up being tracked by the police, arrested and interrogated.

Apart from their artistic life there was much intensity in their personal life as well. Petr and Eva had a strong love affair. Although they quarrel a lot they have many tender, loving moments together. The other couples of the company experience similar situations too. As strange as it may sound there is also a love affair between a student and her teacher whose name is Tom. When this comes to light it will lead to Tom's dismissal. Tom plays a significant role in these children's life since he takes part in whatever they do especially at night.

The film ends with the group's arrest when they illegally try to create a graffiti on the outside part of a train!!!

It’s worth seeing this film as more or less, it represents scenes of current school life. The students seem to have a particular code of communication which is totally strange to the teachers.

As referred before Petr has a nature skill in making signs with spray, what is called graffiti and he goes out at nights painting buildings. His mum hasn’t realized anything nor have the teacher staff and the headmistress of the school.  Teachers can’t comprehend with pupils’ way of thinking. They seem to be totally incompetent to handle the situation and make students get involved with their studies. The headmistress seems to have lost control and she mixes personal affairs with school affairs.

Michael Coleman’s parents are well off people and don’t pay attention in their sons daily life. What is so remarkable isn’t the students total loss of interest for school subjects and their intense interest in occupations that are kind of risky we could say, like drawing numerous buildings with graffiti, trains and walls too, risking being caught by the police. Peter’s mother seems to struggle to brink up her boys but she doesn’t seem capable of controlling the situation too. The girls mainly starring are Klara and Paula. The girls also don’t seem to go well at school either and they follow the boys in their screwing way of life. Paula’s interest are quite different, sewing and designing is what she likes doing but her options aren’t approved by her parents, while Karla just wants to graduate because she things that this is the only way to find a job.

Among the teachers only Tom, seems to come closer to the students, giving them space to express themselves,  as his belief is that only if someone is interested in something he is going to be fully occupied with it. He has the attitude that school should offer students the chance to cultivate their talents, interest and skills not asking blind compliance to the rules. He comes close to the students, shares his free time with them. We dare say this is much closer than it should be normally allowed to. It’s a different philosophy of considering things, the opposite attitude of the rest old fashioned teachers. Normally none of the two policies can lead to developing the educational procedure.

Coming too close to students, he has a better understanding of them but as he doesn’t distinguish the roles of student and teacher, seems to make it difficult to work the students’ performance problem adequately. There seems to be a chaos. No one meets no one anywhere. The headmistress goes from bad to worse, losing control of everything, and she doesn’t seem capable of standing up the role she is supposed to have undertaken. In two scenes she seems to let her sentiments take over, she smokes all around, and she acts in an unrighteous way when having the chance to get a sponsor for her school. The girls also seem to have more freedom than normal and they have no suspension οr any ethic barrier to prevent them from inappropriate behaving. They seem to have no limits, barriers, they just want to taste life to full extend, without feeling guilt or showing hesitation about their actions. We dare say that here parental neglect is one of the reasons for the students’ extreme behavior. We find that the headmistress and the teachers are wrong too and this is why the whole school seems to go from bad to worse.

Students don’t understand the subject benefit and refuse to spare their time just complying with the rules and just study what is of no use in their eyes. Tom, the … teacher, tries to use some innovations in the school to approach the students, but finally he can’t succeed in accomplishing his plan, because of his not distinguishing the roles and behave like a teacher and not friend of students and because the headmistress chooses the way that suits her and her carrier than showing responsibility that her position demanded. Everything seems to be exaggerated but definitely there is a basis for all this and shows a change in society, concerning family and social values, loss of destination. We think it’s difficult to see the real causes of this declination but we think there is a general demerit/decline in values on all levels of social and political level. Could it be that adults don’t simply understand the young or is it a conflict between generations trying one another for domination?
