Honore-Victorin Daumier (1808-1879) was a French painter, caricaturist and sculptor. His topics are related to issues of social inequality, political corruption, and psychological turmoil. Due to the censored and propagandised nature of 19th century French art, it was through a humorous means that he managed to express himself.
'Meeting of Thirty-Five Heads of Expression' is a painting that represents the varied emotions of the collective individual – not only in nineteenth century France, but universally – yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
