La bataille de la crête de Bazentin dure du 14 au 17 juillet. Les objectifs des Britanniques sont de continuer à attaquer au nord de la Somme. Les unités de la DLI qui participent à l'attaque sont les 12th,13th et le 15th bataillons.

Le 14 juillet, les Britanniques réussissent à s'emparer des premières lignes allemandes et à avancer de plusieurs km ; mais ils n'exploitent pas leur succès. A la fin de la bataille, ils ont connu de nombreuses pertes, et sont arrêtés par de nouvelles positions allemandes appelées High Wood et Switch.

The Battle of the crest of Bazentin lasted from July 14th to July 17th. The objectives of the British are to carry on attacking the North of the Somme region. The DLI units which participate to the attack are the 12th, the 13th and the 15th battalions.

On July 14^th, the British succeeded in taking possession of German frontlines and moved a few kilometers forward; but they don’t make the most of their success. At the end of the battle, there are a great deal of casualties and the British soldiers are stopped by new German sieges called High Wood and Switch.
