Ökumenisches Domgymnasium - PROJECT ACTIVITIES

  • Many of the ELLEY activities in Magdeburg combined the three aspects of the project. Here is a selection of the activities organized or supported by ELLEY in the school years 2016/17 and 2017/18:

    3RD TERM PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

2018, June 1st – like in 2017, on the International Children's Day the ELLEY group again organized sports activities for all students in the school yard during the lunch break. That has started a tradition to be carried on!

2018, February 24th – ELLEY has organized a football tournament in the school's gym, and made the food for the catering. A big article appeared in the newspaper, and of course the school’s website announced the event and reported about it (links).

We had invited teams from a football club for migrants and the football teams from an organization which helps handicapped people to play with teams of students from the school. This meant fun and fair play for all participants – and opportunities to meet people they normally have little contact with. The “School without Racism / School with Courage” group of the school is planning to make the tournament a regular activity in spring (before the outdoor season begins).

    3RD TERM CREATIVE ACTIVITY

2018, May – the layout of the Travelling Book was discussed in the ELLEY meetings, and one member designed the picture for the front page.

2018, March 12th-25th  – “International Weeks against Racism”: within the school activities were coordinated by the “School without Racism / School with Courage” group (which several ELLEY members also belong to); each Year was to decide on an activity for one day; Year 9 (the ELLEY Year)  organized a walk out of the school into the city in the lunch break. They had made colourful posters and banners supporting tolerance and diversity, and of course legal aspects had to be considered, too.

2018, January 15th and 19th –  ELLEY cleaned Stumbling Stones, which commemorate people – mainly Jews, but also political opposition, handicapped people and others – who lived here before they were deported and mostly killed under the National Socialist regime (1933-1945); we read from biographies, laid flowers.
