Operating phase

  •

Each lesson lasts about 1 hour. It has the same planning, because a cyclic project enhances children's learning.

Each lesson starts with the finding of the postcard by Russell, the explorer, from a specific habitat on Earth.

1.The teacher shows the postcard and reads the description of the habitat written on the back. The students observe the postcard and listen to the description.

The teacher always reads, translates and lets children repeat some terms.

Then, the teacher shows and gives each child the three animals’ identity cards which report simple adjectives about animals of the habitat and their profiles.

2.She gives each child some pictures of different animals. Each student chooses the three correct animals’ and glues them on the corresponding identity card ("matching game").

3.At the end of "matching game", the teacher organizes and gives each child cardboards and different materials referring to the habitat (for example: leaves, flowers, little stones, sticks, coloured feathers for the rainforest; sand or corn flour for the desert; powdered sugar for the arctic habitat...). Each student uses the materials provided by the teacher to reproduce the habitat and create a page of the "habitats' booklet".

4.At the end of the lesson, teacher and pupils sing the "Habitats Song" to have fun and gradually strenghten their vocabulary.
