    Biography,  NORWAY

    Gro was born in Oslo the 20th of April, 1939 .
    She is the daughter of  Gudmund Harlem and Inga Brynolf.
    Her husband is Arne Olav Brundtland.
    Together they have four children.
    She took her medical education, to become a doctor, at the University In Oslo and the Harvard University , Harvard T.H Chan School of Public health.
    She started her political career in the Labour Party (Arbeiderpartiet)
    She worked in The Health Department from 1966
    She was the Minister of Environmental department from 1974-1979

    She became the first female Prime Minister of Norway  and also the first female leader of the Labour Party in 1981.
    She was the Prime Minister of Norway for 3 periodes ( 1981, 1986-89 and 1990-96 )
    From 1998-2003 She was the General Director of WHO, The World Health Organization.
     

    Gro H Brundtland has received numerous Norwegian and international prices for her work concerning Environment, Women`s rights and Health.
    In 1983 the UN founded a new World Commission for Environment and Development, lead by Gro Harlem Brundtland. It is better known as The Brundtland Commission. 
    The commission had a special focus on the situation of the poor people in the world, climate challenges and sustainable development.
    Gro has been a role model for women all over the world.
