George Emil Palade
(n. November 19, 1912, Iași, Romania - d. October 7, 2008, Del Mar, USA), was a Romanian doctor and scientist, specialist in the field of cell biology, winner of the 1974 Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine. In 1986 he was awarded in the United States the National Medal of Science ("National Medal for Science") in biology for: "fundamental (pioneering) discoveries in the field of an essential series of highly complex, super-complex structures present in all living cells" .
