Environmental Factors Guide

  • Environmental factors dimension

Each partner prepares 3 activities to develop this third dimension based on environmental factoirs inside the Healthy School Guide. All partners must show evidence of this on this portal

Each partner must test other partners' activities in the lessons and submit feedback here.

  • Environmental Factors Activities

    Environmental trip (Institut Marina-Spain)

Our students visited the surrounded area of our high school to get some samples from water and other plants to check pollution levels in the area. They also analysed different types of plants and organized a programme to clean up the area.

Eco-friendly Saint George Celebration at school (Institut Marina-Spain)

We encouraged our students to create paper roses in an origami workshop to celebrate Saint George at school. We replaced flowers by paper-made roses in order to create an eco-friendly environment also during celebrations

Environmental actions at Institut Marina (Spain)

We're improving our sustainability as a public high school in our hometown, La Llagosta, by making students aware of the importance of this topic. We're working on environment in a cross curricular way, involving different subjects.

Heal Me Spain- Visit to the Treatment Plant in La Llagosta

Our students visited the Treatment Plant in La Llagosta to conduct a workshop to check the factory's efficiency in filtering psychochemicals factors from Besos river.

Environmental factors 1/ Latvia, Christmas decorations

Approximately 24 trees, 300 million litres of water, and 32 million BTUs of energy are used to produce just 1 ton of paper. Like the recycling of most other materials, recycling paper saves energy, reduces greenhouse gases, and conserves crucial natural resources.
Reusing old paper for decorations is a wonderful way to save money and help protect the environment. Creative recycled crafts help students connect with each other and teach them green living ideas.

Environmental factors 2 / Latvia, Save energy, save the planet

Although it may not be obvious, there is a direct connection between energy use and the environment. When we consume less power, we reduce the amount of toxic fumes released by power plants, conserve the Earth’s natural resources and protect ecosystems from destruction. By taking steps to reduce energy intake, we contribute to a healthier and happier world. Wasting energy means that more of it has to be produced, and burning fossil fuels is a major source of carbon dioxide (CO2) making climate change worse. However, it is easy to make some changes at home to make a difference.
Objectives of the activity is to explore and test ways to save energy.

Environmental factors 3 / Latvia, Warm Sweater Day

It is an annual tradition for Eco Schools. This cosy day takes place at the beginning of February. The Climate Alliance initiated Warm Sweater Day in 2007. The motto of the day is: ‘Warm yourself, not the planet.’ The concept is just as simple. Turn down your thermostat by one degree Celsius, and instead put on a cosy sweater to stay warm.

Factory visit / Latvia, Dzelda HES, small hydropower plant (HPP)

Students visited Dzelda HES, which is very close to Nīkrāces pamatskola.
It was built in 1993 to meet the local factory's need for cheap electricity. The dam was built in time of one year.
During the visit, the owner explained and showed how electricity is made. Students could explore and test some devices.
While visiting Dzelda HHP, students had the opportunity to speak with Juris Jaunzems, who is the owner of the plant. They had the chance to ask questions about the topics they were interested in.
According to the owner, hydropower plants are one of the “greenest” way to produce electricity.
