Lithuania

  • My Christmas cusine.

Students (25) involved in the Project were asked to share their family traditions and to make a traditional Christmas dish. This activity introduces Lithuanian Christmas traditions that are still alive nowadays.

The Christmas Eve's dinner table, according to the Lithuanian traditions, has to be simple, without meat. During the Christmas Eve, fruits, nuts, honey, potatoes with various types of fish, mushrooms and vegetables are served. Traditional drink is called Kisielius, a thick drink made from cranberries, sugar and potato starch.

If the family wishes to have a great and happy upcoming year, the dinner should consist of 12 dishes.

The most important dish of the evening - is the Kūčiukai.

The most important tradition before the Christmas Eve meal is sharing a wafer.  The family gathers around the table. The eldest member holds a large wafer and breaks off a piece to begin the ritual. The remaining wafer is passed on to another member. This continues until everyone at the table has a piece of the

wafer. Finally, each family member gives wishes to every family member.

Creating a video in English “My Christmas cuisine“

25 students of 6-9 grades were happy to teach students from other countries to prepare one of the traditional Christmas dishes.

Project students with the guidance of senior students recorded a film - tutorial that presents ingredients and step by step procedure of preparation and the final dish.

English teachers helped children with more difficult phrases.
