Guided tour of a Nuclear Power Plant (CNPE) Surroundings and simulator – workshops – professions

  • Third year French students who were hosting a student at their home, mathematics teachers and one member of the Direction of our school Mr GUERIN accompanied the foreign teachers and students. This tour included workshops on different subjects linked to production of electricity. We were also introduced to an engineer who is now a project manager. He has previously been in turn a quality manager and then a nuclear safety manager after having graduated both in chemistry and material science. During the presentation, we discovered that the building and the running of a nuclear power plant involve quite a lot of professions (architect, civil engineer, nuclear power station operator, quality manager, safety manager, project manager...).

People attending to this visit/conference/workshops realised that a very large number of professions were involved in a nuclear power plant. Nearly all these professions require good knowledge in STEM, at least to be able to communicate with different teams in the company.
