The 2nd step- game draft

  • In order to prepare French mobility, the French students worked on real games. There were two main goals in that activity :

    - understand some mechanisms for the future games,

    - have fun playing/creating games with the other students during the mobility.

In France and in teams, mixing countries, students played different kinds of board game to extract “bad and good” ideas to be used in game creation. Students learned to play together and to explain to others how to play according to defined rules in a foreign language. It also helped them to practice English, mainly without noticing they were “working” and they have improved their skills.

Games playing  helped a lot the students to define what the games should look like and how they can play them. They also had to learn new words specific to games.
After that students  created strategy for  new thay own game - documents, rules and game boards and cards. Five groups created 5 prototypes of a game. The main idea was to create a game about "jobs". They worked on several points :

    - main goal of the game,

    - set up,

    - components,

    - gameboard,

    - rules,

    -mechanisms.

At the end of the French week, they made some tests with other students to improve the newly created games.

Between mobilities (before mobility to Italy), students worked on rules exchanging online with students from the other 4 countries. Some rules were canceled and replaced by new ones. They particularly worked on images, on cooperative games and on knowledge games. It was also decided that French teacher Mr NOC will coordinate the creation of the games as he his very familiar with quite a lot of games and creation. All the games were then tested at leat five times by French students as the prototypes were on site.
