DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION

  • Today we celebrate the City Day and a group of 12th graders from our school has been to the City Hall of Vila Nova de Gaia to speak in the council ceremonies about the East Timor School of Kelicai.

This is hands on democratic participation !

What's the best way of putting into practice what we've talked about in class?

They have chosen SDG#4 and SDG#17 to address the decision-makers and ask for their co-operation in the rehabilitation of the East Timor School of Kelicai, highly sponsored by D. Ximenes Belo, Bishop of Timor and 1996 Nobel Peace Prize.

In response, the City Mayor accepted the challenge and announced that the City Hall will donate €50,000 to the East Timor School of Kelicai for its rehabilitation. We #act 4SDGs!!!!

Well done, Daniela Valente, Inês Caldas, Inês Santos, João Paulo Correia, Mariana Reis! We are proud of you!

On our national holiday of 25th April that celebrates the revolution which has brought democracy to our country, a 12th grade student, Adriana Moura, has delivered a speech about SDG#4 Quality Education at the City Hall.

Our students discussed what Democracy is and what makes a good citizen.

Holding a mini-Council of Europe with 12H to discuss what to do about the refugees coming to Europe. It's hard to make such important decisions...
