    The exchange to Slovakia

The exchange to Slovakia has actually been a really fun, informative and very cooperative experience for me. I really liked working on a common project in the international team with other students from all over Europe, as they have all been very nice and friendly people and speaking english as the primary language of communication between us was a completely new experience that has also improved my skills at speaking english and working with other people in general.

The Trip began on the 19th of may in 2019 at the airport in Düsseldorf, where our german group along with Mrs. Roos and Mr. Yetisen got on the rather a bit older and smaller turboprop airplane which we flew in to get to the Budapest airport. From there we have taken a Taxi to get us to our hotel in Solvakia where we would stay for the next 5 days and when we have arrived our group firstly needed to rest and unpack all of the stuff for the 5 days in our separate rooms. My best friend Jason, Robin and I have been in one room. Actually i think that the first day was mainly to organise ourselves and get some rest after the trip, but i am not sure as it was 9 months ago, so we either met with the other international groups on this day, or on the second day of the exchange. And to welcome all the other groups (including our german group), the Slovakian students and teachers have made a very nice welcoming presentation, where they have danced and shared us their meeting tradition of taking a piece of bread with i think sugar.

On the second day, the Slovakian group showed us their city, with a lot of historic places like for example a museum of which i can not remember the name of, or a diorama of an old village or really old village houses that have been built a few hundred years ago. We have even met the mayor of Humenne, it was a really special experience for me, as i have never ever met a mayor that was as nice and friendly as he was.

The second day was another day, where the Slovakian group have been showing us more of their country. We drove to a farm where they produce a special Slovakian cheese, that is only avaiable in Slovakia. The cheese is not as solid as our typical cheese, but also not as creamy as our so called “Frischkäse” but rather mixture in between those two consistencies. The cheese did taste a bit weird when it was raw, but i can imagine that it would taste delicious with other things. And one other thing that we have done, is that we visited a very small zoo, where we have seen all kinds of animals like lambs, sheep, birds, emus, rabbits, deers, even an alpaka and many more. We have even gotten the opportuinity to ride on a horse which was awesome (well technically we have only been sitting on the horse´s back and one very important piece of equipment was missing, so it was not real horseriding, but still it was very nice 😃). I think that it was originally planned for us to visit one more farm, but it was canceled due to the rainy weather that we have had in Humenne on that day.

And on the fourth day, our Interantional groups of Students from different countries, have been gathering information and making a presentation about different crops, and each group has had a specific crop, that they worked on. But before that each group has learned on how to make a delicious and healthy salad with their crop as the main ingredient, and when all groups have finished making their salads we could go around and taste a bit of each (our groups crop was the radish). And one thing that i can say is that all of them have been very tasty. And in the evening, the Slovakian Teachers have organized a party in the hotel´s party room, as a final meeting to say goodbye to each other, as our departures have been on the next day. I do not like parties and dancing that much, but the traditional Slovakian dance that some performers have shown us was very nice and i appreciate that the Solvakian teachers have organized this for us.

Well, and on the fifth day, our groups have met one last time in the school in Humenne, to say goodbye for one last time. It was very sad as all of the teachers and students have been very friendly and nice people, and on that day i have given the “about me” book that Mrs. Michael suggested that we should do, to two Slovakian students who have been very special for me as they have been very nice and friendly and just really nice children in general, Madusz and his friend. And those tow students have been Madusz and his friend. After that the spanisch, italian and our german group have departured to the Budapest airport, we have had one little problem, as our flight nearly did not take place because of very long delays, but unfortunatley the other groups flight was canceled and they have been needing to stay at the airport overnight, which was not good.....

But in the evening of that day we happily landed in the Düsseldorf airport, where our families have already been wating for us and it was very good for me to be with my family again, eventhough the five days have been very special.

One more thing that i want to say is, thank you to all of the teachers and for everything that you have done for us in order for the exchange to take place and that you cared and watched over us for the whole five days, as it really was an amazing and special experience that would not be possible without you.
