Telling Stories

EB1 da Nazaré e Escola Gonçalves Zarco

On the 20th February Gonçalves Zarco students visited their partners in EB1 da Nazaré. The idea was simple: to tell stories and share book preferences.

We also invited some of the special needs students from STEE to the storytelling event. It's always a great learning opportunity to have students of different ages to share knowledge among themselves.

The event started with two teachers from EB1 da Nazaré reading us a story by Luís Sepúlveda.

Then the Gonçalves Zarco students shared their reading of a story by Mia Couto, "O beijo da palavrinha".

After reading, each student from the EB1 da Nazaré shared with the older their favourite book explained why they loved it so much.

The final activity was group readings, where the older students gathered around the younger ones to hear them read their favourite stories. It was the perfect ending for a wonderfully rich activity.

    Celebrating stories together.

Madeiran schools decided to dedicate a day to celebrate stories. Our students worked together and presented a theatre play, an original story, that involved the students of Serviço Técnico de Ensino Especial and the students of Escola Básica e Secundária Gonçalves Zarco; songs performed by the students of Escola Primária da Nazaré and we also had the opportunity to listen to a storyteller from the project "Ler com Amor", who told us a story by Hans Christian Andersen.

    Here's the activity program.

    Reading Time

At Escola Básica e Secundária Gonçalves Zarco it's reading time.

Every week, for about 30 minutes, everything stops and students just sit and read a book. The goal is not only to foster their love for reading but also to provide them with the opportunity to expand their vocabulary by reading books in a foreign language, to give them a chance to exchange opinions about their favourite books while discovering new things to read.

    BRAGANÇA

Jardim de Infância do Centro Escolar da Sé - JISé2 -  Bragança

During the week of the affections, held from 11 to 15 February, we received the visit of some grandparents who shared with us their childhood stories.

We heard stories read from books, oral heritage tales and even childhood songs from one of the grandparents who had once emigrated to France.
