Veronica Miller, better known for Ronnie, is seventeen years old and she is a rebel and disinterested girl. She saw her life upside down when her parents’ marriage reaches the end, three years ago, and his father moved from New York city, where they lived, to a  little seaside town in North Carolina. Her father, Steve, played piano and taught his daughter to play. Ronnie became a prodigy, but with her parents’ separation she rejected the musical instrument. She preferred to go out with her friends and she has broken up with her father, since he has gone. Although she was accepted at Juilliard’s  School, she refused the opportunity.

Kim, Ronnie’s mother, sends her and her younger brother, Jonah, to spend their summer holidays with their father. Then, Steve has the opportunity of becoming nearer to his daughter, but this won’t be an easy task. He, an ex-teacher of Juilliard’s School and pianist, lives calmly now in Tybee Island, a little seaside town where he grew up,  and works in the local church replacing the stained glass, which was damaged by the fire.

With Ronnie’s arrival, Steve understands that his daughter has changed a lot. She spends her days out, she is hostile and she doesn’t even speak to her father while her brother helps his father in the church.

On the first day, she met the popular Will Blakelee, when he hits her with a volleyball ball. Ronnie thinks he is a conceited young boy, till both get closer to protect an endangered turtle nest. It’s when she finds out that he is deeper than she thought and starts to fall in love with him. She also gets together with Steve through the only thing they have in common – the music.

All this happiness finishes when Ronnie receives some terrible news, her father has got a cureless disease, cancer. Since then, she starts to be sweeter and sweeter and she takes care of him during the summer. At the same time, she lives a warm passion with Will until the relationship is over, due to misunderstandings.

Kim, takes back home her younger son, Jonah, at the end of the summer and Ronnie stays with her father there.

One night, the girl decides to finish composing a music that her father has started writing and she played it in order he could listen to it. A week later he passed away.

Ronnie had his ex-boyfriend’s support and at the end they stay together.

The reason for my choice

I chose this film, because there is something about it that is really touching. I’ve already seen it endless times and I never get tired of it.

Although it is not a true story, there may be many similar stories to this worldwide. It’s incredible the strength that people have to bear all the pain. I identify myself a little with her, because I felt afraid that a person closer to me didn’t win the battle against cancer. Fortunately, in my case the story had an happy ending.

                  I strongly advise everybody to watch this film, because it’s quite interesting and touching.
