    THE SPANISH HYMN by Lina

The "Marcha Real" is the national hymn of Spain. It's hymn is one of the four world hymns that has no lyrics ( Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and San Marino are the three others). Although it doesn't have lyrics now, it used to. The hymn is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1761 and there has been a misconception that the author was Frederick II of Prussia because of the fact that he was a big music lover. Supposedly, the anthem was a gift from Frederick II to Juan Martin Alvarez, but the real author is Manuel de Espinosa de los Monteros

    The Spanish Civil War, Lina

In 1931. a monarchy with elements of dictatorship in Spain was abolished. In 1936 the National front (a coalition of socialists, communists and anarchists) won the elections. The Spanish military wasn't satisfied with that, just like the fascist Falanga, modeled on fascist Italy and nazi Germany's ideology. Two sides conflicted in that war-fascists and republicans. Fascists got help from Germany and Italy. The leader of the fascists was Francisco Franco who proclaimed himself 'caudillo' modeled on Mussolini and Hitler. The war lasted for 3 years (until 1939.) and 40, 000 people were killed. The fascists won the war and Francisco Franco was in power of Spain until his death in 1975.
