Crossing the sea. A story of friendship
This little book was born from a path realized within the e-Twinning project entitled “A new friend in our doorsteps-the refugee”.
The project, aimed at pupils of the nursery and primary school, is carried out in collaboration with two Greek schools and one Turkish school and addresses the delicate issue of refugees, focusing on the value and importance of developing inclusive and responsible attitudes, enhancing diversity and understanding that all people have the same rights.
The story told in these pages is inspired by the silent book “Horizons” published by Carthusia, a book without words, whose images tell a story of escape and migration. The crossing of the desert, the beach from which the rusty boats leave, the frightened looks in the dark night on the ocean, the infinite blue of the sea, and then again another beach. But precisely because it is a book without words the interpretations of the images can be different, and open to many reflections.
After browsing the text with the children we asked them to try to read the images and tell us what they thought could be the story told through the illustrations.
From their story this book was born which was then illustrated by the children themselves
