GREECE - 4th Primary School of Petroupolis "Ioannis Kapodistrias"

The collaboration with the Hellenic Theatre / Drama & Educatiοn Network  and UNHCR aimed at raising awareness among students about refugees, developing  empathy,  cultivating solidarity and a climate of co-operation in the classroom and preventing situations of rejection and Intimidation to students who differ.

The book “ Tough Nut” was approached by the students through experiential activities and theatre and educational drama techniques.

The common aim of children is to express their solidarity and love to their peers living in our country and throughout the world who have spent their childhood in war, persecution and deprivation.

In this context, they met with refugees, got to know them, heard their stories, played with them, invited them to their school performance and they presented the rights of refugee children together.

ITALY - ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO ANZIO 3

We started our journey by showing the children the illustrations of Orizzonti.
ORIZZONTI is a silent book that tackles in a poetic, strong and original way one of the most complex issues of our day: that of immigration. The journey by sea of a boy forced to flee his country, told through the immersive rhythm of the images.
After browsing the book together, we asked the children to try to read the images and tell us what they thought could be the story told through the illustrations.
Through a series of  stimulus questions direceted to the children, we outlined with them the characteristics of the people who are forced to flee their country and so are in the refugee condition.
The journey lasted several weeks and led to the creation of various products, including graphics, video and audio recordings and photos.

Here are some of the questions asked and the answers provided by the children.
What is a refugee or an immigrant?
A refugee is a person looking for a shelter, like cars in the garage. The refugee escapes because there are bullies, because in his country there is war.

    How is he/she?
Like us, just a little dirty because there is no bathroom and he only has the clothes he wears

    Where did she/he live?
    In another country, like ours

    What does he/she carry?
His clothes, water, food, family photos, a jacket, a phone, a hat...

    Why did she/he leave home?
Because in his country there are the bullies and war

What are your needs? And what are your rights?
The refugee loses everything: home, family, food and it is difficult for him to take care of himself. He needs us, our help and our friendship.

    TURKEY FARABI PRIMARY SCHOOL

Students made a handbook to define the refugees and their hard lives. They read the story and discuss about it. Here are the pictures of the students.
