World cafe on refugees
On Saturday, March 17th, our school's C2 class organized a world cafe workshop with teachers, parents and students. This workshop is part of the twinning project: "A new friend on our doorstep-the refugee.”It took place on the large balcony on the first floor of our school, which was decorated with children's works and beautiful flowers. The aim of the workshop was to communicate the issue of refugees to a wider audience and to activate teachers and pupils of other classes of the school as well as pupils' parents.
The aim of the workshop was to investigate the attitudes and values of the participants, their views on refugees and the way they face them. Another aim was to write down the reasons that prevent them from approaching refugees physically, emotionally and mentally, and finally to find ways that motivate people to approach children refugees.
The World Cafe workshop evolved into 3 stages of 15-minute question processing. At each stage, we changed
- the team members apart from the 'host'
- the questions the groups worked on
- the colors with which they wrote down their answers.
Everyone was happy to participate. When the procedure was over, the answers were put on posters and the participants were passing through, reading and voting what they liked. Finally, the most popular proposals were found, a register of volunteers was created by all those who wanted to participate and the next steps were set.We decided to meet refugee families and dedicate some of our free time to cook for them and play with them.
The children were thrilled to see their school decorated differently, and from the first moment a pleasant and enthusiastic atmosphere prevailed among parents and students. The head teacher of our school was responsible for the organization of the school area and equipment, the teachers supported the workshop in many ways, while the Parent Teacher Association and the parents of students in C2 class provided treats for all participants. It was a team effort and that is the reason why it had substantial results.
The children and teacher of C2 class thank all those who participated and helped in every way

During the project we contacted the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to inform them about the initiatives related to the project and to invite them to attend one of them; even if they were unable to intervene, they complimented on the educational and social value of the same.
We also invited the volunteers of C.O.R.E. (anti-racism solidarity committee for African children seeking asylum) who, together with some of the children hosted in the reception centers of our territory, told stories and explained to children the importance and value of solidarity.
TURKEY FARABI PRIMARY SCHOOL
We organized " DRAWING FOR REFUGEES" activity and our kindergarten students. Most of them already know the stories of the refugee lives through their neighbours or tv. news. After talking about the hard lives of refugees, we drew their lives and hopes on the board which was set up in our schoolyard. Students drew best-wishes for all the children of the world. The 4th graders danced for a peaceful world.
