Frida Khalo
The school library takes the lead about Project research so there we started our trip around Art/artists .
Pikín, the school library helper , will guide us through this wondeful adventure .
The school librarians selected a great variety of books to work our Project.
It was very difficult to decide an artist to start our research.
But Frida Kahlo was the winner as we wanted to chose a woman and we knew she spoke Spanish as she was from Mexico.
We borrowed this from the school library and we bough some other in Spanish and English to discover more interesting facts about this artist..
We had lot of fun visitting this interactive web where you can play and learn at the same time about the way she livedin "La casa Azul" adapted for kids.
This ppt is based on an adapted biography (in Spanish).
We also visited teacher Paola suggested link at Google Arts and Culture. There we could find some interesting quotes by the artist:
"I paint flowers so they will not die."
"I am my own muse, the subject I know best."
"I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best."
"I leave you my portrait so that you will have my presence all the days and nights that I am away from you."
We realized things/people/ special momments can live forever in our paintings.
At our Arts and Crafts lessons, we researched about Frida´s Kahlo life and Mexican culture. We discovered how they celebrate "Día de los Muertos" and we decided to inspire our works on Mexican sugar skulls.
We remembered our knowledge about symmetry from our Maths lessons.
We designed masks, pumpkins.....and we have lots of fun.
Our final display was exhibited on the eTwinning wall at the school main entrance.
Our families helped us to decorate our faces following symmetry too.
As part of our research we discovered how Mexican celebrate special days, using colourful "papel picado" for their decorations and we used it for our Pictures for the Logo: The three Wise men, who bring presents on Epiphany´s eve in Spain and Mexico as we could find out learning about Mexican Christmas Traditions. We found paper doilies in bright colours and we decided to use them for our decorations .
We found lots of activities by other schools as part of our research.

The Frame was the chosen work to inspire our works as we had to draw a portrait for our profiles and we realized that frames could also be a very important part in paintings/photographs.
Most of her paintings were selfportraits and this is the way we started our work for the Project.
We made our portraits following tutorials form the web and we shared them with our partners at Art research main page.
Then we made our frames using crayons or felt tip pens. We tried to use brigh colours as this is the way she used to colour her works.
Flowers and two birds were themost important elements and we could personalize them with differente colours.
And these are our frames.
Then, we scanned our portraits using our computers.
And , finally, we inserted them on the frames following G.I.M.P Tutorial by Teacher Mela.
As we usually do with the tasks for eTwinning Projects, we uploaded them to EDIXGAL platform to be qualified for Arts and Crafts Subject.
Now they are ready to be used use for our profiles.
However, we decided to build a big frame to be used by all the school classrooms. Flowers and two birds in different colours were used using doilies leftovers.Every week, it could be different asclassrooms portraits could be exhibited being the chosen ones e a surprise for the rest of the school. You could see it on the video call. Sixth graders worked cooperitavely to achieve our goal.
And this week the winners are.....
We invite all the partners to use our frame for their portraits!
You can download the frame from our school materials folder.
For our Galician lessons we wrote Frida Kahlo´s short biography.
We are going to use this biography as an introduction to our book "Frida Kahlo in Pontevedra".
Frida vists our town which has been coloured by Matisse and she meets there Manuel Moldes spirit.
