"Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a song written in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in reaction to television reports of the 1983–85 famine in Ethiopia. It was first recorded in a single day on 25 November 1984 by Band Aid, a supergroup put together by Geldof and Ure and consisting mainly of the biggest British and Irish musical acts at the time.

"Do They Know It's Christmas?" raised £8 million within twelve months of release. The single's worldwide success in raising awareness and financial relief for the victims of the Ethiopian famine led the recording of several other charity singles in the UK and in other countries, such as "We Are the World" by USA for Africa.

Thank you friends from England for sharing that with us. Food for thought ....

In France, in 1985, an artist called Coluche (a humorist who got involved in politics because he thought that the society we were living in was not caring enough, ignoring the most essential needs of people) created the "Resto du Coeur". It's an association whose aim was to collect food everywhere around France to give it to people in needs. Originally, this action was to take place only the coming winter but in the end ..... 32 years after, it still exists and it helps thousands of people every year to live and eat decently. People who work in this association are all volunteers!

The video below shows you the song that was written by Jean Jacques Goldman (a French singer and composer) and sang by several French artsits of the time. Sportsmen and actors also participated in the recording.

Since then, every year in December, a large group of French artists gather and give a show singing and acting. All the benefits are donated to the "Restos du Coeur".

This is a perfect example of how we can all help, share and care at our humble level, just to give everyone around us the feeling to be included!

We've added the translation of the song. We hope you'll like it, but most of all, we hope you'll think and do something about it!
