  • Acropolis

    The Acropolis of Athens is the most important ancient Greek building. It is on a hill. The hill is rocky on all sides except the western side. The monuments are the Parthenon, the Erextheion, the Tomb of Athena Niki, the Propylea and the Theatre of Dionysos. The word "Acropolis" is from the Greek words "akron" (=highest point) and "polis" (=city)

    Archaeological Museum of Athens

    The Archaeological Museum of Athens is very beautiful. It is very big and it has got a lot of statues and sculptures from ancient Greece. There is a gift shop where we can buy souvenirs, to remember our visit. There is also a small cafe.

    Arhaeological Museum of Piraeus

    The Archaeological Museum of Piraeus contains mainly sculptures, discovered in Piraeus and in the area of the Attica coast from the Bronze Age to Roman Times. The museum displayed objects are divided in sections: prehistoric collection, pottery collection, bronze statues, classical gravestones, Hellenic sculptures and Roman sculptures. The museum is a 15-minute walk from the Piraeus underground station. The old building of the museum was built in 1935. The new, two-storey building (1981) covers a total area of 1394 square metres.

    Aquila (eagle in English) is the symbol of our village Castel dell'Aquila. It is found in several logos:

    A legend says that an eagle pointed the place where our village had to be built, depositing a tablecloth

    there.

    Dante Alighieri lived between the 13th and 14th century and is considered the father of the Italian language. He was a poet and a writer. He is very famous for the "Divina Commedia" (Divine Comedy)

    The Alps are the longest mountain range in Italy and Europe,stretching from west to east,at the extreme north of Italy, marking the border between France, Switzerland and Austria.
    The Alps are divided into three groups: western Alpes including Mont Blanc (the highest mountain in Europe,  4810 meters high), the central Alpes, characterized by a wide range of glaciers, and the oriental ones famous for the presence of the Dolomities.

    Archaeological Museum of Salamina

    This is the Archaeological Museum of Salamina, Greece, which is housed in the 1st primary school of Salamina founded in 1832 by Kapodistrian, the first governor of Greece. It was used as a primary school in 1981.

    Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicolas)

    It is a traditional village near Karpenissi. There are many hotels and restaurants. People visit it in the winter to see the snow and in summer to walk in the forest. There is a big square and a church in the centre of the village.
