  • Implementation of the 1st TLTA

During February the team of six students who participated at the the first TLTA in Thessaloniki organized workshops for all students of 3rd and 4th classes in our school. They have chosen a topic of identity and presented activities My identity wheel and My history.

Participants of the workshops found these activities interesting and useful. They have commented it helped them to learn more about each other, to built trust among the group and selfconfidence.

The students who guided them through the workshop were well prepared to answer their questions and explain more general aims of the project My involvement as a European with refugee children. During March they plan to organize workshops for students of all 1st and 2nd classes in our school and for the members of volounteer club of another secondary school in our town. (This year they have decided to learn more about refugee crisis so we hav decided to carry out some of the project activities with them.)

The activities and concepts that were presented only to students that are going to participate in the 2nd TLTA in Château-Thierry are following: identity and culture, cultural glasses, the iceberg model of culture, stereotypes and prejudice.

    Implementation of the 2nd TLTA

During May and June there were several workshops on the topic of communication for the students of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade (approx. 50 studetns). The activities that have been presented were following: The story of my name, The robot game, Cab drive, Conflict style animal.

Before the workshops Mr. Fridolin Weiner from Interkultur has looked at our planning and gave us some suggestions. The timeline of all activities was well planned. There were differences between groups (there were students with special needs in one class) so we had to adjust the timeline as well as our explanations and directions that we gave them for each activity. We see this also as another way of practising our communication skills. Everyone felt good in the role of the trainer. We needed three meeting to prepare for the workshop.

We think that we have achieved the aims of the workshop. Students understood the S-R model of communication that was presented. What was especially interesting was activity Conflict style animal because we could see how people react differently in similar situations, reflect on that and discuss. This workshop is related to some subjects in our curricula (Croatian, English, Presentation skills, Etics) and we can use what we have learned in classroom discussions. Next year we are going to present some acitivities to the students of the 1st grade and to teacher at the county meeting for Civic education. Students were also interested in project in general ans asked us about our visit to France.

    Implementation of the 3nd TLTA

Implementation of the 3nd TLTA took place during December 2018 and January 2019. In December there were two workshops in 3rd grades and in January there was a workshop in 2nd grade. All the workshops were carried out by six students who took part in the training by Interkultur at Karlovac (September 2018). There war approx. 45 students at the workshops.

Purpose of the workshops was to familiarize participants with the model of culture and for students to endure contradictions to own cultural framework while communication with others and are able to look at sociocultural processes from different perspectives. After general information about the project following activities were presented: the chairs game, what is culture (brainstorming), definitions of culture, the icberg model of xulture, learning of the day (reflection).

We believe that aims of the workshops have been achieved. The activites were dynamic, participants reacted well and the learning atmosphere was positive and friendly. The activities that were presented are not part of the curricula in our school (we are vocational school) so we strongly believe that these workshops have positive impact on the students. Students who participated in the training provided by Interkultur plan to present some of the activities they have learnt to their teachers.

    Implementation of the 4th TLTA

During May and June 2019 we have worked on implementation of the 4th TLTA, which took place in April in Kamenz. Our work includes workshop about stereotypes and prejudices, transekt walk, a quiz. Our plan is to present the results of the transect walk to school management and students' council.
