    Unaccompanied refugee children at our school- 2/10/2017

    Six unaccompanied young refugees from the guest house of the NGO "Praxis" visited our school, on Monday, 02/10/2017, in order to meet its students and take part in a basketball tournament. The young refugees along with the students of the 1st Experimental High School of Thessaloniki "Manolis Andronikos" played basketball, laughed and enjoyed the company of each other, offering an enjoyable spectacle to the audience -mainly students as well as teachers of our school.  This  tournament was held in the frame of the 4th Sport Day at School and is one of the activities of the European Project "My involvement as a European with refugee children", aiming to raise awareness for refugee children.

    Α-ΠΟΛ(ε)ΙΣ

    On October 12 2017, 10th grade students visited the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki. Apart from the permanent collection on display, the students had the chance to see an installation by artist Anny Kalitsidou, by the title Non-Citi(zen)s.Having been hosted by the museum in the context of the celebration of “European Days of Cultural Heritage”, the artwork gives prominence to the issue of refugees in a multidimensional way. As it happens, the refugee issue is also at the centre of attention for both the students and the teachers of 1st Peiramatiko Lykeio which presently participates in an Erasmus+ programme that has the refugee issue as its subject.

    On Friday, 10/11/2017, ARSIS - Social Support Organization for Youth organised a workshop about human rights for 19 students of the 10st grade in the framework of the Human Rights Campaign 2017 -2018. The visit of ARSIS in our school is part of the Erasmus + KA2 European Action Program "My involvement as a European with refugee children", one of the main goals of which is to foster tolerance towards refugees and immigrants and to enhance acceptance in Greek society.

    Celebrating the World Drama/Theatre Education Day 27 November 2017, students of 1st Experimental High School, along with their teacher Mrs Anastasia Grigoriadou, prepared and presented a dramatized text from the book “"Monologues across the Aegean Sea", a collection of 28 testimonies of unaccompanied refugee children. The action is part of the Erasmus+ project “ My involvement as a European with refugee children”.

    Training by NGO " Antigoni"

    On 19/12/2017 the teachers Kyriaki Anticulani and Christina Michailidou participated as representatives of the Erasmus + KA2 pedagogical team "My involvement as a European with Refuges" in the training provided by NGO ANTIGONI, which was aiming to present a project dealing with "New forms of European Citizenship in the Migration Period" and studing the impact of migratory and refugee flows on European societies. The project is carried out through a wider cooperation of official bodies in Europe and is coordinated by "Giovanni e Francesca Falcone Foundation".

    "Biological Immigrant"- A theatrical performance about social exclusion and discrimination

    A left kidney, after a car crash, is transplanted into an organism already in hemodialysis. While the body is in the recovery phase after surgery, the immune system tries to isolate and "kill" the foreign kidney but it finally kills itself, the whole body. 

    The play " Biological Immigrant" of Arkas, which was presented on Friday 2 March in the multi-purpose room of the school by students of 11th grade, is aiming to raise students' awareness about issues related to social exclusion, discrimination and violence against people of different origins, cultures or religions.

    Dissemination of cultural program against social exclusion and discrimination (" Once upon a time there was an Immigrant..." )

    On Wednesday, 25/4/18, our cultural program under the title "Once upon a time there was a stranger ..." was presented and disseminated in the framework of the Festival of Environmental and Cultural Programs, in the Cultural Center of Toumba. During the presentation poems with antiracist content were recited and parts from the theatrical play "Biological Immigrant" by Arkas were displayed in video. The presentation was also disseminating our Erasmus+ project "My involvement as a European with refugee children", in the frame of which the theatrical play took place.

    Workshop "Multilingual and Multicultural Games" in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

    On Sunday 20/5/2018 a group of twelve pupils of our school together with their teacher Grigoriadou Anastasia visited the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where they participated in the workshop "Multilingual and Multicultural Games", organized by the Department of French Language and Literature of the "AUTh. on Sunday". The 90-minute workshop, headed by Mrs. Valia Mousouris, assistant professor of the department, and coordinated by teachers - members of the "Pluralités" team, focused on linguistic loans from Greek to other languages ​​and vice versa, aiming to strengthen the sense of community through diversity. We thank Ms. Mousouris and the team's teachers for the warm hospitality and the pleasantly constructive program they offered us.

    The visit is part of the intercultural education actions organized by the school within the framework of the European program Erasmus + KA2 "My involvement as a European with refugee children".

    Christmas celebration dedicated to the Refugees

    On Friday morning, 21/12/2018, took place the Christmas celebration of our school, which this year was dedicated to the Refugees. In particular, at the school's events hall, pupils from the lesson of theatrology presented a theatrical performance entitled "Τhe flight of the holy family to Egypt", which linked the persecution and escape of the newborn Christ to Egypt with the fate of the persecuted from their place and refugees.

    In the framework of the celebration and in view of Christmas, the student communities of the 1st Experimental High School of Thessaloniki "Manolis Andronikos" gathered food items and baby items for Refugee hostels of NGO "Arsis".

    A WORKSHOP ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS BY "ARSIS"

    On Tuesday 5/03/2019, during the last two school periods, a workshop about human rights was implemented at our school by the NGO ARSIS and in particular by Vassiliki Vatali, Human Rights Trainer. In this framework, students of the class A2 took part in the project In4Child-Psychosocial and health interventions for the wellbeing of children from vulnerable populations. The intervention was organized under the Erasmus + KA2 program "My involvement as a European with refugee children".
