Šumarska i drvodjeljska škola Karlovac

  • Šumarska i drvodjeljska škola Karlovac (Karlovac School for Forestry and Wood-work) started to work in 1947. It is the school with the longest tradition of educating forestry technicians in Croatia. During almost 60 years of work, the school changed locations and titles, but systematic education for the requirements of forestry remained from the establishment to date. But the programme structure of the school has been gradually changing and amending so that apart from the forestry program, the need emerged for wood processing occupations – carpenter and wood technician, and five years ago, also meteorological technician.

Main activities of school are: schooling of regular students, adult education, specialist training and qualifying. There are five occupations for regular students: forestry technician (four year course), forester (three year course),  woodwork technician-designer (four year course) , carpenter (three year course), meteorological technician (four year course). Currently there are approximately 200 students and 40 teachers and staff members.

In the school environment, since 1980, the school arboretum has been cultivated by students and their teachers. It is a green surface with various sorts of trees bushes which serve for scientific, cultivation, education and decorative purposes.
