All the students and teachers visited Lisbon - the capital and the most influential city of Portugal. It lies on the Atlantic Ocean and River Tagus, it is about half an hour from Barreiro. Its privileged location made it one of the most important cities thanks to the control of great part of the Atlantic. The international group of students and teachers involved in the project VET4SCAPE has seen the most important places in Lisbon. But one day was enough only to taste the beauty of this great city and most of us will definitely come back and continue in sightseeing and exploring the city. We have seen these great places in Lisbon:

Jerónimos Monastery is also called Hieronymites Monastery. It is the most visited landmark in Lisbon, along with the Belém Tower. Inside the Monastery is Vasco da Gama’s tomb.

Belém Tower sits in the Tagus Estuary Natural Reserve. It was initially built to defend the city. Years later, it was transformed into a lighthouse and a customs house.

St Mary Major or just Lisbon Cathedral is Lisbon’s most important religious edifice. It is commonly called “Sé de Lisboa”.

Lisbon’s principal square - for decades, it was where all the maritime commerce would be brought into.

Padrão dos Descobrimentos stands 170 Ft (52 m) tall. It was designed to commemorate the Age of Discoveries in Portugal. It was inaugurated on the fifth centenary of Prince Henry the Navigator, the discoverer of the Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde.

The Story Centre provides an audio tour outlining the main historical, points of interest of the history of Lisbon.
