Introduction

  • This project is meant to raise standards in Vocational Educational Training in the fields of Business English, digital competence, business competence and transcultural competence. I hope that we will collect lots of material and that many teachers and stakeholders will make use of this Twin Space.. A warm welcome to all users.

    About the project

The project VET4SCAPE (Vocational Educational Training for Skills, Competence And Practice for the Economy) will concentrate on 4 competences: Business English, Business Practice, Digital competence and Transultural competence. The students will work on tasks like how to set up a junior firm, what the structure of a firm is, what taxes have to be paid and how to raise money for a company. The experiences will be exchanged and compared and should lead to got advice from other schools. The competence in Business English will be enhanced by extra study material that should enable students to go in for an LCCI certificate exam to gain additional competence. Digital competence shall enable them to access teaching and learning material more easily and should also put students in a position to produce simple advertising material. Finally, transcultural competencies will enable students to learn to work successfully in an international team. Project is open for further schools.

    AIMS

The students should learn how to run a junior company, what they need for setting up such a company, how to run, ditribute tasks, what taxes to pay - in short to learn how a real company works. Secondly, students should learn business English to level B2 to be able to master job interviews, develop negotiating skills, read business contracts and be fit for international trade. They should also be able to present a product or a business idea. Digital skills should enable them to know about and access learning platforms, develop simple advertising products like leaflets and videos, and should be able to master pertinent digital tools on a higher level than is regularly taught at school. Transcultural competence should enable them not only to know about other cultures and tolerate them but to react in an appropriate way in situations that demand sensitive behaviour. This also includes training in business behaviour and a knowledge about countries that take part in the project.

    WORK PROCESS

We want to develop teaching materials that are presented at all schools, students will get tasks and as a quality measure students will be tested for their advancement and skills. As we intend to apply for a KA2 Erasmusplus project, in the course of this project we want to conduct 2 training events per year where students can come together and share their experiences.  After a preparatory phase where business ideas will be developed by students, in September 2017 the junior firms will be created and the information about these firms will be uploaded on Twin Space. There will be an intermediate report in January 2018 and a final report in May 2018. In between we will cover certain chapters of Business English as applicable according to the curriculum. We will also compare requirements for English, as both schools are business schools, although with different course lengths. Digital skills will accompany the work on junior firms as appropriate because these tools are needed to advertise.

    EXPECTED RESULTS

All the results of the project shall be published on Twin Space and made available to all interested teachers and the common public. We expect reports about junior firms and presentations about how they are run and how successful they are. For that we work closely together with Junior Achievement. (We expect this as an encouragement for other schools to adopt that scheme and gain some more business practice for their students). If possible, we intend to take part in Junior Achievement fairs. We expect an output in digital products that can also be presented to the public to demonstrate what is possible, and we will also give links to the online learning platforms we intend to use. Furthermore, we intend to set up an online learning plan to be copied by others.  We will also produce guidelines for transcultural behaviour that will emerge from the students´ experiences that will result in a catalogue of advice (do´s and don´ts for different countries.
