3rd primary school of Drama. GREECE

  • During the first period of the project, all the pupils of our school were involved in various activities in order to get some general information on what the 17 sustainable development goals are about. All the teachers pointed out that it is important to take action soon and convinced the pupils and their parents that our school's participation in the "WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE " project is the first step towards the achievement of this goal.

1rst Grade: Goal 2- Zero hunger

The pupils talked about proper diet in the classroom and their teachers organized activities that emphasized on the positive effects of a balanced diet on people’s physical and mental health. In the end, all the pupils adopted good eating habits and enjoyed their healthy breakfast at school.

2nd Grade: Goal 1- No poverty

The pupils talked about the urgent need to eradicate every form of extreme poverty, including the lack of food, clean drinking water and sanitation. They wrote “A letter to the children of the third world- the children of our world” to express their intention to help them in every way they can so that these children can have better living conditions. They also sang songs and made drawings.

The 'journey' of sustainable development for 3rd grade  began with the acquaintance of the 17 goals, known as the "Sustainable Development Goals", which are an effort for all countries to respond effectively to global problems (poverty, hunger, climate change, wars, etc.). Students will take action for the great change on our planet by 2030.

Initially, we studied each objective separately. We reflected, watched videos and photos from other countries and discussed how we could help.

We read fairy tales with the 17 goals and played board games. Then each student painted one of the 17 targets and so we created the "book of 17 goals", which includes paintings and activities for them. Finally, we took part in the 'in action for a better world' competition and we all received the 'ambassador badge of the 17 goals'.Of course, we did not fail to send our Christmas wishes to cards made of paper that we made ourselves.

4th Grade: 2030 agenda for sustainable development

The pupils read about the 17 global goals, they searched information and gained knowledge through websites. They also watched videos and presentations and they created their “eco-tree” of sustainable development with green leaves and the flags of the 6 schools that participate in this project. They even drew their own hot-air balloons for each of the 17 sustainable development goals and sang a beautiful song, entitled “Together we can save planet Earth” with the help of their Music teacher.

5th Grade: The World’s Largest Lesson

The pupils watched various videos in the classroom and they talked about the environmental problems around the world. Each student chose their favorite sustainable development goal and wrote a brief description, explaining the reason why it is important. Then, the pupils worked together in order to make their class poster for the project. Their Music teacher helped them write the lyrics and compose the music for a song about our planet.

6th Grade: Will we manage to change our planet by 2030?

This was the main question the pupils had to answer. To do this, they had to study, search, work, collaborate and record their thoughts and feelings. They made beautiful posters, presented their work in a smart way, played games and wrote lyrics to songs.

    FRENCH

Pupils of the 6th class of French language were motivated to do a small research about the Sustainable Development Goals, to collect information and to bring it to school. We discussed in Greek, we watched videos and read some articles in English and French as well –their level in the language is A1 (beginners), but we definitely had to use French even to a smaller extent.

To be more precise: they were given  a vocabulary list which contained basic terms, such as “United Nations”, “international development”, “sustainability” in French, we studied again Unit 2 of the school French manual –which is about a city, its different places and the means of transportation- combining “new” knowledge concerning the 11th goal, with other words like  ”the sustainable cities and communities”.

At the end, we made 3 little posters using the three languages –Greek, French, English- which include the 17 goals whose achievement was decided 7 years ago…
