IV. Selective process

    SELECTIVE PROCESS OF THE ISSUES

           Aiming to improve students' critical thinking and constructive criticism skills along with ICT, in the previous stages of the project, students were required to write the issues they would like to talk about on the common padlet wall.

           It is really exciting and motivating to see that so many different ideas are suggested by our students, which means they are into these issues and would like to share their opinions with their foreign partners of different cultures.

           That would be quite nice to be able to talk about all the premises on the common padlet wall, however, due to time constraints we need to go through a SELECTIVE PROCESS and decide on the 10 best liked issues by our students. Therefore,

    1. In order to have well-expressed issues and premises, teachers will check and correct their own students' suggestions on the padlet with the following steps:

         * correct grammar and vocabulary,

         * eliminate issues that are either too difficult or too easy for B1/B2 levels

         * make sure that the suggested premises are stated as propositions and

           oppositions and with facts not opinions.

        * keep the statements which are equally strong to defend as for and against.

    2. All the corrected and checked premises will be copied into the google document where we will have a long list of many ideas.

    3. The issues will be put in categories in order to avoid repetitions.

    4. Students will be given a poll where they can choose the topics they want to talk about.

    5. In the end, we will have 10 most voted issues by the students themselves to work in the international groups.

         After all the statements are checked, corrected and some of them are eliminated due to the criteria mentioned above, all the rest are categorised according to the issues they refer to. This stage ends up with 7 categories as follows;

    1. Healthcare+Biotehics+Addiction+Pandemic

    2. Environment+Animal Rights+Food+Agriculture

    3. Massmedia+Social Networks+Disinformation+Freedom of Speech

    4. Human Rights+Social Issues+Poverty+Gender+Racism

    5. Education

    6. Economics+Developing Countries

    7. Politics+Migration+Brexit+UN

         Including more than 10 issues, each category will be evaluated by the students with a poll. They are required to choose 3 issues for each category. We hope to have the best ones in the end.
