    "Digital gap"

What do you think about the digital gap, does it exist in your country?

    Digital divide

In my country (Italy),there is the digital divide and it's mainly caused by the lack of adequate infrastructures and lack of fast internet connection, about 12% of the population does not have access to broadband. Sara Muzi

    Digital accessibility

In my country (Germany) the digital gap is a huge problem that came back into the focus due to the pandemic thus the homeschool.

The access to technology and the access to digital platforms is still distributed very unequally and a lot of students of not so comfortable families have massive difficulties in catching up with their classmates and therefore stay behind.

The pandemic has thus showed us what issues we still have to tackle in which one of them we should prioritize.

In the case of my school (Ecole européenne Strasbourg) this issue was tackled by providing devices to the families in need. So props to the staff of my school at this point!!! :)

    Digital Accessibility

In my country (Spain) I believe that the digital gap exists, but, I also believe that this gap is getting smaller and smaller, and, due to the pandemic and teleworking, many families who did not have access to the internet, now yes they have it.
In my case, during confinement in Spain, I went to live in a house where I did not have Internet, (I worked with mobile Internet), and my teacher contacted me in case it was necessary to provide me with Internet.

    Digital gap and Usage gap

The digital gap in education exists both in access to technology and sufficient knowledge of the main applications. During the pandemic we had to use an art program that had large files and not everybody was able to download it because their computer couldn’t support such heavy files. Moreover some students had no idea how this program worked. Some devices would turn off in the middle of lessons due to bad connection or overheating and we had to change the first app we used for online lessons due to technical problems. There are so many great presentations programs but everyone sticks to the classic PowerPoint because they don’t know to use them or they’re afraid to try, fail and waste time and energy. Thanks to the coronavirus the next generation probably will have fewer struggles but innovation in technology is fast and we must keep up.
