  • Equality: What shocks or upset me the most in my school?

The hierarchy in the educational system

One thing that upsets me about my school is that most of our teachers don't treat us as equals. We are suspected of lying or twisting things around and not treated with the respect we deserve as human beings. The consequence is that nobody actually respects these teachers, they just rule with fear, whereas teachers who treat us with respect and kindness get their students to respect them as well.
So concluding my post, I think we should interact with each other as equals and not try to dominate students by making them feel afraid of persons they should actually be able to trust.

    Equality in our school

With the passage of time large advances are made in the field of equality in the schools of Greece. Nevertheless, there are situations where boys and girls are not treated the same by their classmates or their teachers. For example, girls must be very careful about their appearance. In contrast with boys, girls must follow every day strict dressing rules to avoid criticism and judgement.
In addition, boys have access to every sport they like, while girls have many restrictions and can't join many sports in P.E. class because there are considered as "only for men".
To sum up, there are many stereotypes and beliefs that girls always get high marks without really trying.
These already mentioned behaviors must get eliminated in order to optimize equality in our schools and, generally, in our society.

Image that the school projects to the students

In our school, throughout the years as i ended later in the day, i noticed that the cleaning staff consisted mainly of women. I believe that this does not represent gender equality and what we fight for in our everyday life. I think it would be interesting to share the tasks equally in between men and women to show students that equality is important. The earlier we teach students, the more evolution we will see in our world.

    Gender equality in my school

In my school to combat this phenomenon, the school management organizes two or tree days of co-management, where us as students trough an application downloadable on a smart phon, book ourselves in the classes that we want to attend. This classes are carried forward from others students in our school. we can follow and make questions.

    Is there equality at school?

We read many masterpieces from other centuries, which are beautiful and incredible, however, there are teachers who do not know how to separate the times, since the vision of men and women were quite different and as such they turn what would be a good learning from that book into a wrong moral lesson that women need to be delicate, belittled and defended by their men as they are supposedly not capable on their own and that men should be warriors, strong who cannot cry and should defend their women like trophies. ..not to mention that many see rape, domestic violence and independence as something vulgar and of no concern and when heavily debated can even be seen as dangerous to what we call traditional.

    Equality in the school environment

    Equality in the school environment

In general, the most notorious inequality in schools is gender inequality, although there are more of other types.
These are, for example, the meritocratic model on which the school system is based, distinguishing students with different difficulties; the division by gender that is done in PE classes; gender stereotypes that portray girls as having more cognitive ease than boys; the favoritism of some teachers in the classroom is still persistent in some schools ...
There are many inequalities that shock me at my school, but they are already so trivialized and internalized that they go unnoticed by the eyes of many. We must work to denaturalize these misconceptions, as well as the division by sexes or capacities. In a school setting, students should be seen as ordinary people and not seen for their gender, beliefs, religion, sexual orientation, social status or their abilities.

    Equality in School

In our world, there are many inequalities that need to be recognized and fought. However, I don't think my school has many inequalities.
The internalized misogynistic ideas are probably the thing that upsets me the most. For example, how we are separated by sexes in PE class or how we have to dress a certain way. In my opinion, this is a problem we have to work on and raise awareness, so that all of us can be equal.

    Equality in my school

Equality in my school is quite an important issue, and that whenever possible, the elderly try to do activities such as games, performances or exhibitions, so that the most uninformed and the smallest are informed and take as a habit a character of treating everyone equally. I think that all this are reasons to be proud of my school, because I don't know of any other school that insists so much on this topic.

    Inequalities during the health crisis

It can be complicated to find inequalities in school because this institution has the role to build the new generation based on equality and diversity but the coronavirus pandemic has more the contradictions more evident. Students who can afford better devices and internet connection were able to continue instruction with limited problems while those who didn’t have a stable connection couldn’t follow lessons adequately. Authorities tried to reduce the gap offering free devices to all those who need them, however there were timing issues and they couldn’t access all platforms. Young children were the most affected because some parents could take care of their education while other had a full time job and struggled to compensate and integrate their learning. Moreover the gap between low-achievers and high-achievers also increased.

    Non-poverty in my school

The economic status of each family should not condition students' opportunities in the school. In public schools, everyone should have the same chances of material, exchange trips... because education does not understand neither of social classes nor of the economic situation of the families.
Referring to the material, in my school there is a releo program and a book bank, but sometimes there are not enough books for everyone and families have to buy them. Some teachers require books, physical education material that not everyone can buy.
Exchange trips are very expensive and not everyone can afford them.
With the situation of Covid-19, lot of work has been done online and not everyone has the same access to technology or Internet.
To conclude, I believe this situation should be talked so that all the students can have the same opportunities so that within the school, economic inequality is not promoted.

What frustrates me about the equality

Honestly, the inequality in my high school is not very noticeable at first glance we are all integrated in the classroom if it is true that behind all that layer there is this inequality that cannot be eradicated, first you have to take into account the number of types that exist such as social, economic, educational, gender and legal inequality.
There is something that frustrates me a lot and that is why I will start talking, thanks to the coronavirus and due to that the quarantine and the online classes many students have not been able to follow the classes since they did not have internet or enough devices to follow the course if that it is true that it came to us all by surprise but something essential such as education should not be overlooked.
