The School Ntra. Sra. de la Providencia is placed on the outskirts of Palencia (Spain) in a working class neighbourhood and therefore it recieves students at risk of social exclusion, together with immigrants and social minorities such as gypsies. The school was built in 1964 and it is a three storied building with thirteen classrooms and several multi-purpose rooms. We have a large field, severals yards and two play structures to be used in winter time. The schools has 26 teachers and over 350 students from 4 months old to 16 years old.The levels of education are from kindergarden to
secondary. We provide a safe learning environment where all students are important and we reach standard levels of academic achievement. We value open communication between parents, students, and teachers. We promote intellectual curiosity and creative thinking where the entire community, the arts, and all cultures are valued. We would like to hightlight what we consider the strenghts of our school are: - Highly motivated staff ready to implement any new project attractive to both students and teachers. - The English as a second language department effectively addresses the needs of the English language learners. -Relevance of European programmes in the different levels, promoted by the management board. The school motivation to organize this project is based on our previous experiences in European programmmes. We have already joined a KA101, a Comenius programme and a KA219 in the last five years and we consider these programmes highly motivating for our students, most of whom have never been abroad, and extremely enriching for the
whole educational community. The key people in charge of running the project in our school will be mainly three teachers who have experience in KA101 and KA219. The three of them are : -Irene Sánchez who belongs to the Management Board and has successfully coordinated a Multilateral Comenius proyect , she has also been the coordinator of the school in a KA219, she also belongs to the communication team so that she informs both newspaper and radio of the main activities carried out in the school in order to give them visiblity. - Víctor Nieto is the PE teacher in primary and
secondary. He has set up different activities to promote healthy habits in our school such as hiking school club, basketball and handball, promotion of popular races, orienteering. - Ana Gemma coordinates a teacher´s group with the aim to improve the quality of the education offered in our school. She has been involved in several etwinning and Erasmus projects related with culture, history, good health and environment. The headmaster and headmistress of school are also important people backing up the project. In case any of these people mentioned leave their post ,there are other teachers who belong to the Erasmus group who will be ready to take up their part as they have already participated in previous projects and mobilities.
