Romanian participation

  • Sunday, July 3rd

The delegations from Turkey, Italy, The Czech Republic and Romania arrived to Kavala, the beautiful Greek city which held the last mobility.  We were welcomed by the Greek delegation, led by   Mrs. Karanasiou Aggeliki, the principal of 4 EPAL Kavalas, a vocational school, that provides education in the fields of Management, Health and Well-Being and Applied Arts. We were all excited to meet the teachers and students from the other countries involved in the Erasmus project -  ”Differerent but together” and were looking forward to begin the activities.

    Monday, July 4th

The first full day of the Greek mobility started with a short, but relevant visit at the Municipality building, a place full of history, as we were about to find out from the speech of the vice-mayer of Kavala. The next stop was at the school. We were offered a tour of the institution and then we went downstairs to the Festive room and Mrs. Karanasiou Aggeliki distributed, with the help of ther staff, the Erasmus Certifications during a nice ceremony. We could also admire the beautiful art exhibition from the Festive room, all the paintings being made by the students, representing spots from kavala, which give the city its unique identity.  During the evening, we visited the beautiful, old part of the city, we walked up to the medieval castle, admired the beautiful landscape from the top of  the tower and, among many breathtaking things,  we noticed  the Aquaduct built by the Romans, which is still very well preserved and represents one of the iconic sights of Kavala.  At the end of the day, we felt very grateful to have discovered such a beautiful city.

    Tuesday, July 5th

The third day was dedicated to visiting a bakery shop, where we could see the production line of some delicious bekery products. Although it was hot inside, because of the huge oven, we discovered a small group of people dedicated to their work and to offering customers high quality bakery. We could also taste some of them and they were really good. We spent the afternoon at Nea Peramos Beach, a beautiful place by the sea, and we could do some team building activities: swimming, sun tanning, water sports. The day ended with us all feeling spoled by the great company, beautiful sun and warm and blue waters.

    Wednesady, July 6th

This day was dedicated to the phenomenal geography of the region and to its fascinating history. We visited the beautiful island of Thassos and we crossed the chanel from the main land to the island by ferry, an experience that everyone greatly enjoyed. Once on Thassos, we went to the modern Archaeological Museum and discovered an amazing history, that goes back to the ancient times. Thassos was a strategic island during history, due to its position in the Aegean Sea and many emperors tried to control it. After lunch, we spent the afternoon doing team buildind activities on the beach. We all agreed it was a an instructing and also relaxing day.

    Thursday, July 7th

Another history day! Everyone will agree it is so pleasant to learn history while actually seeing the archaeological sites of ancient civilizations. This time it was Philippi, an ancient city that was situated along side an important road, Via Egnatia. Its ruins are very well preserved and we could still see Greek columns, the Octogon, the Greek theatre, which hosts an annual festival, the ruins of an ancient church, the walls of the prison where St. Paul was imprisoned for his Christian faith. After Philippi, we visited Lydia and we saw the Baptisery of St. Lydia and the river in which the  first Christians from the gentiles were baptised. The place had a special vibration and we were happy we could travel back in time. The small marble church built on the place of St. Lydia's house is a masterpiece in itself. After so many impressions, a couple of hours on the beach, swimming and playing beach games, made us fully enjoy the forth day of the mobility. The dinner offered by the hosts in a fine restaurant in Kavala, in a joyful atmosphere, made it perfect.

    Friday, July 8th

The morning started in Kavala, with the visit of an old church, Agios Ioannis and then we departured  to visit St. Panteleimon Monastery, situated in a beautiful place, high in the moutains. The monastery is the reply of a famous Orthodox monastery in Mount Athos, its spiritual protector being St. Panteleimon. When we came down, we stopped at the village of Kipia, to see a wax museum created by a local and we discovered many figures of famous people, international VIPs or Greek cultural and artistic personlities, many from the War of Independence. It was a great day, which helped us discover more of Greek history, while the dinner in the old part of the city made us appreciate once again the Greek cuisine.  As our mobility was approaching to its end, we started to feel more nostalgic and share impressions of how this experience impacted us.

    Saturday, July 9th

The days flew by quickly and once again we had to say good bye to our hosts and to the other participants and we started thinking of new ways of continuing our educational partnerships, since any cultural exchange has such a positive impact on students and teachers. We highly appreciated the variety of experiences we were exposed to during the mobility in Greece, the fifth and last mobility in the project.
