With the website https://www.footprintcalculator.org/ we all, Venlo and Pura students calculated our ecological footprint, earth overshoot day and the number of earths we would need if everyone lived like we do.

The results are stunning: while globally, earth overshoot day in 2020 was on August 22, our project group average was on April 30. 

This activity created a lot of environmental awareness among our students. Filling in the website questionnaire was a fun activity to do, so the subject was handled with a ‘light’ approach, but raised many questions. Many factual questions, to help understanding the basics (measurement units, physical quantities, consumption patterns, influencing factors, etc...), that for many students had simply never come across before. And after that, it raised also questions about your own role in ecological matters: what can I do, what can we do as a class, as a family, etc.
