flower bed

  • Primary School in Purda, Poland

This is how the second-graders of our school develop their creativity and social skills (with a bike in mind). The idea is to make a bicycle installation that will act as a flower bed and at the same time, promote an active lifestyle under the slogan "Cycling for health". In the classroom we discussed ideas of where the unusual flower bed should be located in our village. After that we visited the authorities in the Municipality. The pupils had to be familiar with legal issues related to the development of public space. The clerk showed a map of the place and pointed out the places where the BIKE could stand. However, the pupils decided that the perfect place for the installation would be the school field. The head teacher loved the idea and the most exciting part began! An old bike was found in one of the pupil's grandmother's yard. The bicycle was brought to the classroom, where we removed unnecessary parts, cleaned off the rust, matted with sandpaper. We had a great time applying the foundation and painting the colours we selected. The last phase is still ahead. Soon, the BIKE will be installed, flowers will be planted and the campaign "Cycling for health" will flourished!

Soon a bicycle flowerbed will bloom with pansies, primroses and narcissi.
