Rudina heads and Glagolitic - clay and caligraphy workshops

  • About the archeological findings

Rudina heads are a monument of Slavonian cultural heritage. These are stone blocks found at an archeological site near Požega. It is believed that the Benedictines who inhabited the monastery made in Romanesque style the head of the apostles modeled on their own portraits. The students tried their hand at making Rudin heads made of clay. They were created themselves a unique souvenir to bring to their homes. Workshop is prepared by Croatian Geography and Geology teacher Mirna.

Croatian school librarian Marija prepared a Glagolitic writing workshop. Participants wrote their names in the first Croatian script, which originated in the 9th century.

The Glagolitic script was composed by the Greek Constantine Cyril. The oldest stone monument written in Glagolitic script is the 11th century Baška Tablet. Today Croats write in Latin, not Glagolitic, but they cherish this scrips as the valuable and unique heritage.

Outcome is  display that will be printed and shared among partner schools.
