ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO 2 

IC2 Pascoli is a Comprehensive School in Cento, Ferrara province, Italy. It has more than 800 students, 39 classes, including kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, in 5 school buildings: three kindergarten ( from 3 to 6 y.o.) two primary schools (from 6 to 11 y.o.) and one secondary school (from 11 to 14 y.o.). Three types of school, each characterized by a specific educational and professional identity. About 100 teachers work there and 10 of these are teachers for pupils with special needs. Teachers are involved in developing a vertical curriculum from three to fourteen year school itinerary. Teaching is oriented to the quality of learning of each student and not to a linear sequence of the subject’s content. Teachers, for more than ten years, have activated experiences of knowledge, collaboration and exchange with the European schools, thanks to the Comenius projects and now it is is coordinating an Erasmus + project with Spain, Bulgaria and Turkey. These experiences have been very important and have enriched teachers’ capability of working together, cooperating with European colleagues as well as with the Local Authority and Associations of our municipality, not to mention families who have been kept informed and involved in the initiatives undertaken by the Institute. The town of Cento has had a significant industrial development, with many industries known internationally especially in the field of mechanical and production of machinery for the food industry, attracting workers from both Europe and other parts of the world who have settled and continuously establishing with their families in the municipality. This has brought in the last decade to an increase of about 25% of students whose families migrated from Pakistan, Romania and from the African continent . Some classes register a 50% of students with this kind of background. There are also some students with socially disadvantaged families who require specific personal plans.
