  • Lighthouses' history

    Nighar,Sahib,Fatima

    1871
    İn 1871 the railroad turned the small settlement into a transit hub and a major port,as people could work as traders.

    1880
    In 1880 was constructed by a French company the lighthouse which became the city's symbol covering the increased needs of the shipping traffic brought by the railroad.

    1931
    In 1931 was conducted the first construction study of windward breakwater of the harbour.

    1964-71
    During 1964-1971 there were constructed the platforms of the northern-coastal port area, including the platform in front of the Laboratory, the central pier of the port and the platform of lchtyoskala.

    1994-2001
    During 1994-2001 were constructed by credits of the 2nd CSF the major projects of Alexandroupolis' port.

    Late 2015
    At the end of 2015,the dredging operations of a part of the Eastern Port were completed.

    2016
    At the end of 2016 were finished also the light labeled works

    The inauguration of the lighthouse took place on June 1, 1880 and since then it has been running uninterrupted signaling the characteristic symbol of the city of Alexandroupolis. In the early years it operated with ascetiline , a method that over time has been replaced with that of incandescent using oil . Since 1974 to date, it has been operating on electric power but also has spare acetilene bottles for emergency power cuts. Repairs and modifications to the building infrastructure of the lighthouse were made in 1946 and 1955. In 2002, its electrical equipment was replaced with a more recent technology.

    Asia, Sophia, Carola, Alessio, Sophia, Giulia, Gioele (Italy)

    Faro di Sciara Biscari or Catania Lighthouse was built in 1951. It forms the entrance to the city and 'greets' those who arrive in Catania by sea. This high tower flashes with white light every 5 seconds. The lighthouse tower is painted white with a grey lantern dome. It is a interesting site to see

    Nigar, Sahib and Fatima - Baku lighthousee

    It was built in 1859 on the highest point of Absheron peninsula. Its height is 25 meters . There are 102 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Till 1912 kerosene lamps were used for lightining and in 1956 the first electric lamp was installed. The first pictures of lighthouse was appeared on envelope stamps
