British National Science Week

  • British science week, run by the British Science Association, is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring entertaining and engaging events and activities across the UK for people of all ages.

British Science Week provides a platform to stimulate and support teachers, STEM professionals, children and the general public to produce and participate in engaging and exciting scientific events and activities.

To celebrate British Science Week, Barton Hill Academy had two special assemblies from Fizz Pop’s ‘Solar Sarah’ on the theme of ‘Amazing Air.’ We also ran a competition to find the paper aeroplane that could fly the furthest or stay in the air for the longest period of time. One of the winning planes flew from one side of our school hall to the other! During the week, the Year 3 and 4 children designed robot rovers to explore the moon, whilst the Year 5 classes experimented with mixing different chemicals. Most excitingly, our KS1 children have been learning about life cycles and are now rearing their own baby ducks in their classroom!
