     SPAIN

    OLD PAINTING

    Also known as: "The spinners"

    Author: Diego Velázquez

Baroque style                        Genre: Literary allegory                Type: Picture

Technique: Oil                       Support: Canvas                              Year: 1657

This, together with "Las Meninas", is the most complex work ever done by the artist.

There are varied interpretations of it throughout history, from simple visions that consider the scene as part of a sewing workshop in a palace, to more difficult interpretations that include mythology and hidden symbolism.

There are 2 planes of action: the first shows the movement of 5 working spinners. In the background, there are 5 enigmatic characters, interacting with each other.

    NEW PAINTING

Pablo Picasso (Pablo Ruiz Picasso) Malaga, Spain, 1881 - Mougins, France, 1973

Date: 1939 (March 27)        Technique: Oil on board        Dimensions: 60 x 45 cm

Dora Maar contributed to encourage the political consciousness of Pablo Picasso. She was the couple of the painter during the period when he created the Guernica. The relationship of both was tumultuous.

Dora Maar was the main model of the artist and the subject of some of his great portraits, that reflect both the historical political period and their relationship.

Picasso made, at least, four different types of portraits of Dora Maar.

This picture is in the Reina Sofía Museum. Dora Maar's head is turned to the side, with her hair and staring at the viewer with her big eyes.

Picasso uses the facial features of Dora Maar as if it were a familiar and familiar landscape, marked by the war.

    AUSTRIA

    Old painting

In this picture you can see the countryside of Murau in Styria in Austria. It was painted around 1920-1930.  In this time you had to paint very precisely so people could recognise the pictures.

In this picture you can see a seemingly indestructable rock formation. It is actually part of a sensitive ecosystem which gets more and more out of balance. The painter of this picture is Richard Rangger who was born in 1960 in Innsbruck in Austria.
