Spain & Germany visit to Wales February 3rd - 7th 2020

    Wales: 1st Mobility 

    The 2 Welsh schools are going to be acting as joint hosts during the mobility to Wales. The schools are located within 9 miles of each other. There will be an inclusive whole school involvement in the mobility as pupils from both Welsh schools will participate in the activities with their partner schools during the day and we plan to take pupils to visit the Spanish and German visitors in the evening for social enrichment and inclusive learning activities including meals, quizzes and board games.


    Teaching and learning activities for Wales:

    As Wales will host the first visit of the project, a planning meeting at the start of the mobility will take place to discuss the importance of inclusive learning and the different needs of all our learners at the 4 schools.


    5 day programme - during pupil activities, staff will have the opportunity to undertake meetings to discuss progress within the Erasmus project together with learning walks around the 2 Welsh schools to observe and share examples of good practice.

    Day 1 (Sunday): Arrive at Margam Discovery Centre Sunday evening to be met by Cerian Flannery and Ruth Sanders. Take away eveing meal from Dominoes Pizza or similar. 


    Day 2 Monday:  Morning: Pupils will have a workshop making lovespoons at Ysgol Hendrefelin and staff will have a learning walk and show of interventions and enrichment activities. Afternoon: Staff and pupils will visit St Fagan's National Museum of History. 

    Evening: Staff and pupils will visit Franco Fish and Chips restaurant for a traditional British meal with staff and pupils from Ysgol Hendrefelin before returning to Discovery Centre, Margam.

    Day 3 Tuesday: Cultural visit to Caerphilly Castle in the morning and Big Pit in the afternoon with staff and pupils from Ysgol Hendrefelin and Ysgol Pen y Bryn.

    Evening spent at Discovery Centre, Margam - games evening with staff and pupils from Ysgol Hendrefelin.

     


    Day 4 Wednesday: Well Being Day held at Ysgol Pen y Bryn: activities to include yoga for children, Lego Therapy, Well-being challenges, Mindfulness, Doodling and clay.

    Lunch at Pen y Bryn of cawl - a traditional Welsh meal (lamb and vegetable stew)

    Traditional British Afternoon Tea at Juniper Place - a restaurant in Swansea

    Evening spent at Discovery Centre, Margam with Discovery Centre staff: nature walk and mammal trapping (creating small traps with nesting material and food set up in the park grounds. The little mammals then have food and a bed for the evening and are released back into the park with staff and pupils the following morning). 

     


    Day 5 Thursday: Cultural visit to local beaches and castles around Swansea and Gower Coast with staff and pupils from Ysgol Pen y Bryn. Visit Rocky Shore at Bracelet Bay. carry out rock pooling challenges, sandcastle building, mini beach clean. 

    Lunch on the beach. 

    Afternoon: Mud Challenge at Discovery Centre Margam: 

    The mud challenge is a 15 minute walk from the centre, all paved. Then there is a bog and river. Pupils have to go under a tree and there is a course for them to follow. they can get a bit cleaner in the river. Wellies and waterproofs are provided but pupils will need old clothes that they don't mind getting muddy. Pupils will need showers afterwards. The brochure says;

    ''Ultimate team challenge. Will you and your muddy buddy make it through the river, under the bridge and to the ‘swamp of doom’? Stay clean or get as muddy as you wish. Waterproof coat, trousers and wellies provided.''.

     

    Evening: food at Margam Discovery Centre with staff and pupils from Ysgol Hendrefelin; camp fire session.

     


    Day 6 Friday: Morning: Staff and pupils will take part in a range of cultural activities at Ysgol Hendrefelin including Welsh language, making Welsh cakes and rugby skills.

    Afternoon: Free time in Swansea.

    Evening: Meal at The Grape and Olive Restaurant, Swansea with staff from Ysgol Hendrefelin and Ysgol Pen y Bryn.

    Day 7 Saturday: Depart Margam Discovery Centre for return journey home. 

     

    Let's meet our partners:

    Staff and pupils from both Germany & Spain prepared a short introduction for their partners. 

    Spanish teachers and students going to Wales introduce themselves and look forward to being with Welsh teachers and students.

     

    The German team received many applications from pupils within Realschule Octrup. It was a very hard decision deciding who would travel.

    The decision has been made!!
