Kashubians are a typical borderland population, who lived on the territory changing the nationality for many centuries Many of them underwent germanization or assimilation with the rest of the Polish nation, this process was of a compulsory or natural nature. Many of the known Prussian and German military men were of Kashubian origin, but they did not feel at home with the native culture or the connections were completely broken in the next generation. For this reason, it is difficult to precisely define which of the historical figures may be considered Kaszubian and which one to be a German or a Pole of Kashubian origin.
Part of the Kashubians has kept its own culture and language. Nowadays, the view prevails in sociology and history that Kashubians are an ethnic group of the Polish nation.
Polish law granted the Kashubian language, as the only one in Poland, the status of a regional language.
Kashubians cultivate their culture, young people have the opportunity to learn their language, they also have their programmes in the local media, song and dance bands and traditional costumes.
There are also many competitions of Kashubian songs performed by young people. While celebrating the holidays of town patrons, music bands have the opportunity to present their dance repertoire.
*The students from Primary School No1 had the opportunity to take part in the "live lesson" organized by teachers.
This is the effect of our long-term cooperation with the historical theatre of Krzysztof Górecki. At the school, two shows were conducted: associated with the subject of classes on noble democracy, and from the time of Napoleon to regaining independence. Every part of the show was delightful. The leaders in a colorful and interesting way introduced students into the mood of historical epochs. The students could personally experience duels and try on costumes from the era. The whole, sprinkled with a large dose of smile and wit brought the participants into a good mood.
