Way of moving in the Roannais in the 19th and 20th centuries

«Tramway » : the tramway is installed in 1901. In 1909, the electric cables intended to feed Roanne are installed since the factory of Pincourt du Coteau.

 

 

River transport

River transport in the 19th century is the main mode of transport of goods. From Roanne to Digoin, it is only in the early 1950s that the channel ceases its activity.

The National 7 passes in Roanne

At the time of the Romans this road was a main axis. It connects Lugdunum (Lyon) to Lutèce (Paris) .This axis became a royal road which from the 1950s became an important road for the economy and tourism (Sun’s Road)
