Artificial intelligence, or better called computational intelligence, is the intelligence displayed by machines.

In computer science, an ideal "intelligent" machine is a flexible rational agent that perceives its environment and carries out actions that maximize its possibilities of success in some objective or task.

The main features are:

• Computers can not handle real meanings.

• Computers do not have self-awareness (emotional, social, etc.).

• A computer can only do what it is programmed for.

• Machines can not really think.

 

The most well-known definition of what is artificial intelligence is the proposal by
M. Minsky, one of the most outstanding researchers in the area. He affirms that it is the science of making machines that do things that if they were made by men would require intelligence.
