TOPIC 4 TEAM 1: SOCIAL ORGANISATION PATTERNS / POLITICAL PATTERNS, PAST UTOPIES FULFILLED OR NOT

  • Utopia is known as the idea or ideal representation of civilization, unimaginable or unattainable. Due to its heavy weight idealistic or unrealistic utopia gives us the basis for alternative livelihoods, more fair, consistent and ethical.
This term was invented by the writer and English humanist Thomas More, when he published his book (1516) called: Libellus vere aureus, nec minus salutaris quam festivus, de optimo rei publicae statu deque nova insula Utopia”.

Can we say that there is utopia nowadays? Yes, we can say it, because the civilization thinks that in a few years we will live primarily of technology but in reality after these years we will not have changed almost nothing. As happened many years ago, when people thought that in forty or fifty years we would live with flying cars, teleportation...and it isn’t like that, since that goals have not been achieved. But it is also true that no one has complained of not seeing the world as it looked like a few years ago. What we mean is that people are already well with what they have, fulfilling every day.

Another thing to note is that technology along with science is advancing too fast, even more than the culture and social morality. This means that to those who do not fit or want to accept this change (let’s think about the Amish, living apart from the use of technology and electricity), this technological breakthrough will suppose a big problem.

On the other hand maybe the technology disappears (favoring the Amish) causing a social and economic inequality, it is almost unpredictable.

Regarding the scope of the family, a large percentage of children of nowadays do not respect their parents because of technology. For this reason, perhaps in a few years the education will improve.

Finally, everyone imagines a better world where everyone’s thoughts will change, on one hand people will be closed because they will live in a closed world (Internet) where people no longer relate with others, but on the other hand, part of society may be related to people of different countries, so that neither racism nor inequality between religions will exist.

In conclusion, there is Utopia like it was a few years ago and will still be in a few years time.
